Personal highlights for Niykee include being selected by a scout to join Snoop at the YouTube Brandcast, in May 2013, as well as writing songs, despite the turbulence over the last few years. After five seconds, I'm able to tell the quality of a song or not. After that, I have an idea of the song and write it right away. My guitar is on the back of my porch and I'll let my thoughts flow. Most of the time, it's done in less than thirty minutes. The pain of Niykee's childhood is a constant source of motivation as she grows as an author. "Even in the absence of writing about my life directly the grief of losing my sister as well as my difficult childhood experiences are integrated into my songs," she says. The grief of losing my sister, and the memories of my childhood shapes the songs that I compose. It's crucial for me to have a deep purpose to what I undertake.
