Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on the 18th of July 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. Russell was the daughter of both black and white parents. She was raised on her mom's side. Her skin shade made her feel rejected during her teenage years. They struggled financially. They were always moving and relocated 16 times to assist her father's career. Despite all this, Russell mentioned how in her younger days "there was always an opportunity for re-invention, to make something new."As as a young person, Russell was already artistically inclined. At first, she desired to pursue a profession in ballet. Later, she wanted to be an artist. At eighteen, she took her first acting class and eventually, she found her spot. She saved her money from work to buy an automobile and drove to Los Angeles to audition. When her money ran out then she would go back home to work, until she made enough money for a second audition. This went on for four years until she finally landed her first major television role.
